Obama Fried Chicken. With the racist stereotype that African Americans enjoy fried chicken looming in the background, two New York fried chicken restaurants have named themselves after our African American President. Obama Fried Chicken in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn and Obama Fried Chicken and Pizza in Harlem. Both are located in predominately black neighborhoods, and both are causing a stir… even “ruffling feathers” (The NY Daily News said that). There are certainly racial overtones and perhaps its in bad taste…but I think its really just capitalism at work. Still, the idea that simply putting Obama’s name up there and black  people are going to come in there for more fried chicken is kind of ridiculous. Still, its questionable whether community politicians and organizers getting fired up really think its bad for the community or looking to get their name in the paper. The cycle of hidden agendas continues. My opinion is that its not that big of a deal, but if people find it offensive, maybe Obama Fried Chicken needs to go and Bush Fried Chicken needs to be born.
