A Three Stooges movie is in the works and an all-star cast is shaping up to play the famous threesome.
Sean Penn has signed on to star in the film, playing Larry. Jim Carrey is in negotiations to play Curly and Benicio del Toro is rumored to be up to play the trio’s slap-stick leader, Moe. Carrey seems like a natural to be in this type of movie, but Penn and del Toro are truly inspired if not weird choices. Time will tell if this is the threesome we’ll actually see in the movie. The Three Stooges remains a well known property with devoted fans worldwide.
The movie is simply titled The Three Stooges and is slated to be released in 2010. The Farrelly Brothers are attached to write and direct the movie. The movie is not going to be a remake or a biopic, its going to be set in the present day. Still, there will have to be a good amount of the classic comedy in there. Making it relevant to today and yet hold true to the original will be a challenge. UPDATE: Sean Penn Out – Paul Giamatti in as Larry.

As for Benicio, imo its actually an inspired choice – Benicio can do comedy (ok, so the Usual Suspects ain’t really comedy – but “hand me the keys”….etc..) and is deadpan enough to make him getting hit in the face with a frying pan / pinched on the nose actually worth watching

Right.. present day? I mean the Mel Gibson Three Stooges Biopic didn’t get to much play and I have yet to see it.
I just wish it wasn’t in present day.
The Stooges are as classic as you can get and if Hollywood screws this up (I’m sure they will) then I’m so glad I don’t pay to go to the theater anymore…
Land of the Lost was one of the most recent bombs that they took and remade, only thing worth seeing in that movie was Anna Friel’s hot self

What the Hell is going on here ??? Hollywood, the Music world etc. Where’s the “ORIGINALITY”. Please leave the Classic movies and music alone for crying out loud. Mind you, I’m taking nothing away from these actors…they’re great. No one will ever take the place of the Stooges. Why don’t they create a 3 Stooges channel. The world needs to laugh more….daily.

We’ve suffered through bewitched remakes,honeymooners,alvin and the chipmunks,dr suess rip offs,etc.now let’s destroy the three stooges by adapting them to our modern day ghetto tattoed degenerate world.
Moe Howard,jerry Howard,shemp Howard and larry fine were one of a kind comics.there are NO actors anywhere near the league these men were in.

Not that Jim Carrey couldn’t pull this off, but wouldn’t Drew Carrey be a better choice for Curly? He’s got the build for it.
No actor can come even near to doing these original stooges justice.
Leave good classic comedy alone.

What’s wrong with making this film? It’s just entertainment. If you don’t want to watch, THEN DON’T! I personally would like to see the Sopranos return but, I’ll go see this movie. Only after it’s viewed can anyone say if it sucks or not.
