You read that correctly. I said it right here on the Interwebs. You probably already know that Chick-fil-A is
delicious but is Chick-fil-A anti-Semitic?
The High Holy Days remind me of my first official “job.” I was 14 and my mom brought me to the mall to find a this first job. McDonalds was only paying minimum wage at the time ($3.25) and Chick-fil-A was able to beat it at $4.00 an hour. Big bucks… Chick-fil-A won my services.
Its important to point out that I was a bit of a momma’s boy. My mother would, let’s say, mettle in my Chick-fil-A comings and goings. She’d call the manager trying to get me more hours… she’d call the manager trying to get me time off… and so on.
So, on Rosh Hashanah my mother told me, that I’d better get off for Yom Kippur the following week because we had seats (a big deal) at temple. At the time I was what I’d refer to as a “High Holy Day J” – a Jew that only goes to temple on the High Holy Days – so it was important that I get out of work.
When I asked the manager for the day off he said, “Corey, if you don’t come in next week, then don’t bother coming back.” So, basically I was fired right there on the spot. The truth of the matter was that the policy was to ask 2 weeks in advance for days off…this was only one week. Also, my mother had been a pain in the ass… so I guess I was kind of asking for it. Still the fact remains, I was fired because I could not work on Yom Kippur…therefore, I was fired from Chick-fil-A for being Jewish.
I’d like to point out a couple of things about Chick-fil-A just to stir the pot…
Chick-fil-A founder S. Truett Cathy is a devout Southern Baptist who has taught Sunday School for over 44 years and whose religious beliefs permeate the company to this day. The company’s official statement of corporate purpose says that the business exists “to glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us and to have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-fil-A.” Cathy’s beliefs are also responsible for one of the chain’s distinctive features: All Chick-fil-A locations (company-owned and franchised, whether in a mall or freestanding) are closed on Sundays.
In all honesty, this S. Truett Cathy character sounds like a stand up guy who practices what he preaches. Recently, two young girls caused $30,000 worth of damage to his home and he worked out a deal with the girls’ parents to not press charges.
In any case, worry not Chick-fil-A… I won’t be suing you (besides the statute of limitations ran out a long time ago). The honest truth is that Chick-fil-A…. is fantastic. It is easily the best tasting fast food restaurant…and it might actually be the healthiest. I go there (specifically the one I was fired from) more often then any other fast food restaurant.
So, if you are going to support one anti-Semitic fast food chain…why not make it Chick-fil-A? I believe you can get “The Holocaust is a Hoax” value meal. It includes the “Greedy Money-Lending Nuggets,” “Jew Run Media Fries” and you can wash it down with a “Barbra Streisand Sucks Large Size Cola.”

I want the Barbera Cola… that statement is 100% true!
Sounds like bs to me. For one most restuarants will not hire a 14 year old so that immediately brings your story into doubt. I ran some McDonalds and we never did. I am also pretty sure about Chick Fil A. Also if your mother did that and you allowed it you were probably not a decent employee in the first place. You were not fired for being Jewish. Sounds like you were fitred for being an ass.
Actually, in some states, you can get a job as young as 14. There are a different set of laws until you reach 16, like you cannot work past 8pm, cannot use mechanical equipment, etc.
Corey definitely worked at Chick-Fil-A. But I agree with you…he was probably fired for being an ass.
Oh, I was not the best employee… but the story is 100% true. I got the job in the late spring/early summer after 8th grade…I was 14. And Jeff is right, I was not allowed to work late, only until something like 8pm.
And as far as being fired for being Jewish…well, I may have been an ass. Still, I did need off on Yom Kippur, which was what caused me to be fired. So, I was fired for being Jewish… I would not have been fired, but for, being Jewish.

I have been in the food industry for a few years. You were not fired for being jewish, you were fired for not giving sufficient notice for time off. If company policy is 2 weeks, then thats what it is. YOU should have known when yom kippur was and been prepared. And this is why 14 year olds shouldnt work at franchises..
Chick-fil-A is serving up far more than just chicken sandwiches. Chick-fil-A has joined with the Pennsylvania Family Institute to sponsor a February event aimed at preserving “biblical” marriage and denouncing marriage equality for same-sex couples.
It’s time to get Chick-fil-A on record. Are they interested in being a fast-food restaurant that serves everyone, or partnering with and catering to some of the most radical anti-gay groups in the U.S.?
It’s not the first time that Chick-fil-A has been connected to anti-gay groups. In years past, the business also partnered with Focus on the Family, the Colorado ministry founded by Rev. James Dobson. Focus on the Family labels homosexuality a disorder, supports “conversion therapy” for LGBT people, and once said that same-sex marriage would be a bigger disaster than Pearl Harbor.
I’m fed up with Chick-fil-A – they can eat their own birds until they learn some basic respect and drop all this demented hate stuff.
PS: Your mom sounds great! You should know by now that she is always right. Learn by example. Never be a door mat; it is bad for you and it panders to the worst people and worst business practices.
Hey Leif, have they not served someone for being gay? Does the owner of a business have to sacrifice his beliefs along with serving everyone?
Do you mind when a Jewish ran store like Jo Ann Fabrics makes their employees sign a contract that tells them they may not wish anyone merry Christmas even if someone says it first? The person next in line might not celebrate Christmas and feel compelled to say it when they don’t want to.
Have you seen where some of the money goes from Jewish business owners?
I work for Chick fil A now and you didnt get fired for being Jewish you got fired for not coming into work during Yom Kippur because you failed to tell them TWO weeks in advance. Like you said you asked only ONE week in advanced. granted i dont know how long youd been working there. I know at my CFA the owners are stricter on the new employees than on the older ones. But it was your responsibility to tell them (especially if you knew the policy for requesting off) TWO weeks ahead of time. If you followed the policy then im sure it wouldnt have been a problem. Chick fil A is not anti-semitic. According to your story they didnt say “your fired for being Jewish” they said that if you didnt show up for work (because they weren’t accepting your request off BECAUSE you didnt submit it soon enough) then you were fired. So im sorry you got fired but you need to take responsibility for this and post such bull crap. If anything they could sue you for making false allegations against their store. Its not right what you are doing by posting this. Im really sorry about your experience and i hope you understand that all Chick fil As are all independently owned and not all owners reflect the same core values (even though they should). If you still have a problem take it up with that store not the entire CFA chain.
